Whinlatter Forest Mountain Bike Trail Centre

Whinlatter Forest Mountain Bike Trail Centre is a Forestry Commission managed centre.

Where is it?

It’s located up in the Lake District not far from Keswick. You’ll also get stunning views of some of the best countryside in the UK including Derwent Water, Helvellyn and Skiddaw.

What’s there?

It’s home to two great cross country mountain bike trails with the longest purpose built MTB trail.

The single track trails rise up to 500m (1600ft) above Keswick and the northern lakes.

The first trail is a 19km Red graded “Altura” trail. This is broken into a north loop (9.5km) and a south loop (10km). Built for the rider with a higher level of stamina and fitness.

The second trail, “Quercus” is a blue graded,7.5km trail and is suitable for all levels of ability.

Facilities at Whinlatter

  • Bike shop (cyclewise)
  • Bike hire & sales

Which bike?

Whinlatter Forest doesn’t have too much rough terrain so you’ll be just right on the hard tail or a short travel full suspension.

What rubber?

A fast rolling rear is a good idea and so is a spare in the camelbak as the slate cuts through the walls with ease if you clip anything sticking out of the ground
